Course Focus and Learning Objectives

CPR for the Veterinary Soul is an open-enrollment, self-study course is based on the archive of a MightyVet webinar presented on February 1, 2018.

Both the webinar and this archive course were made available to the veterinary community via the financial and administrative donation of VetMedTeam. We believe in the MightyVet initiative.

The webinar was the 4th in a series of free webinars addressing compassion fatigue, burnout, ethics exhaustion, decreased career satisfaction, and suicide. Unaddressed the outcome is often career and life threatening.

This course is based on the archive of the webinar and is appropriate for veterinarians, credentialed technicians, and practice team members, along with vet and tech school students.

After completion of this course, the student should be able to discuss the current mental health crisis in veterinary medicine through a holistic approach, through who veterinarians are as people, as well as the workplace stresses they are exposed to. Also, participants should be able to outline some coping strategies that can be applied at a personal and professional level.

Participant feedback

.....I appreciate that the speakers offered solutions, not just an overview of the problems.

.....Everything was beneficial to me, I plan to have a staff discussion about this course with my entire clinic. I wish everyone in this field were required to complete this series.

.....The fact that it opened my eyes to potential psychological hazards.

.....Learning how to help fellow colleagues in situations where suicide in a main concern.

.....I really enjoyed this whole series and this last one was especially good in recognizing and getting an action plan for those in need.

.....I appreciate real-talk about the issues facing veterinarians today and the resources for better mental health.
