Course Focus and Learning Objectives

VetCE on Demand: Ethical Criteria Indicating Euthanasia in Canine Aggression utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.

The stress and guilt related to performing euthanasia is recognized as one factor in the rising rate of veterinary suicide. One way to reduce this factor is if the veterinarian is not personally responsible for the decision but instead is following a consensus protocol.

Without objective and science-based guidelines, there are likely animals being euthanized inappropriately. Canine Aggression is the one of the most common reasons for behavior euthanasia. This course outlines guidelines for euthanasia related to Canine Aggression. It reviews aggression diagnosis as well as a step-by-step process for making a behavior euthanasia decision.

At the end of this course attendees will be able outline a scientific approach to determining if euthanasia is indicated in cases of canine aggression.
