Course Focus and Learning Objectives

VetCE on Demand: PsyMed: The Science Linking Psychological Stress and Medical Symptoms utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.

It is well known that certain behavioral signs can identify chronic psychological stress that eventually may affect medical symptoms. This field is known as “PsyMed.” This course examines why identifying these behaviors is more effective than measuring cortisol. It looks into stress-induced cell adhesion molecule disruption and introduces the “PsyMed Hypothesis” as the connection between pet behavioral health and enjoyable longevity.

At the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • discuss testing psychological stress via a review of brain science
  • outline the anatomy and physiology of the adrenal gland
  • discuss a hypothesis for autoimmune and allergy genesis
  • outline testing and treatment strategies for partial hypoadrenocorticism
