Course Focus and Learning Objectives

Feline Stomatitis is a self-study course.

Feline stomatitis is a fairly uncommon finding, making up only about 3% of oral conditions that affect felines. This condition presents as an inflammation of the oral mucosal tissues. The inflammation becomes progressively worse and causes increasing levels of pain. This course looks at the etiology and predisposition of this condition, along with symptoms, diagnostics, and current treatments.

At the end of the presentation attendees should be able to:

  • explain the etiology of feline stomatitis
  • describe what age and breeds of cat are susceptible to feline stomatitis
  • describe how patients with feline stomatitis present to the clinic
  • compare medical vs surgical treatment options for feline stomatitis
  • outline the client education tools necessary for supporting the pet owner through all phases of the condition.
