The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) publishes The NAVTA Journal on a bi-monthly basis. Each issue contains an article approved by RACE for technicians. The applicable article is included within the course therefore access to The NAVTA Journal is not required to enroll. These articles are open to all members of the veterinary community for the fee stated in the payment area below.

RACE Approved For Veterinary Technicians/Nurses

Course meets the requirements for 1 RACE hours of continuing education credit for veterinary technicians in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB's RACE approval. However, participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery.

Course Focus and Learning Objectives

The Raw Pet Food Diet Trend; is a self study course.

This course provides an in-depth exploration of raw pet food diets by examining the differences between commercial and homemade options, as well as various preservation methods like freeze-drying and high-pressure pasteurization. It outlines the potential health benefits some owners associate with raw feeding while critically evaluating the scientific evidence supporting these claims. The course also highlights significant risks, particularly microbial contamination and nutritional imbalances, which can endanger both pets and humans. Participants will gain tools for informed client communication and learn why veterinary professionals must engage pet owners in balanced, evidence-based discussions about raw diets.

At the end of the presentation attendees should be able to:

  • compare and contrast commercial vs. homemade raw pet food diets and the different preservation methods utilized
  • discuss the science pertaining to benefits and risks of raw pet food diets with an emphasis on pathogenic microorganism risks
  • explain how to engage in meaningful client education conversations regarding raw pet food diets and the importance in doing so

 

Open Enrollment with Immediate Access and Individual Scheduling

This is an open enrollment course. Participants may enroll at any time. Upon submission of enrollment the participant is immediately added to the course. The course welcome email provides login and other important information.

This is an asynchronous course, meaning it does not contain real time components. Participants do not need to be logged into the course at specific times to attend lectures or view presentations. Participants do not need to complete the course in one sitting.

Completion Deadline:

Participants have 30 days from date of enrollment to view the presentation, as often as desired, as well as submit the two completion requirements outlined below. If after 30 days the completion requirements have not been submitted, the participant will be graded out of the course as incomplete.

 

Completion Requirements

The completion requirements for this course are:

  • complete the quiz with a score of 80% or better - multiple attempts are permitted
  • submit the course survey

Upon submission of the final completion requirement, the participant will automatically be marked as completed and the course completion email will be sent out. The participant will have immediate access to the certificate.
