Course Focus and Learning Objectives

VetCE on Demand: It's Not Just A Dental utilizes the archive of a live presentation under the same name.

Learning Objectives: This course discusses the importance of educating clients, in the exam room, about the health of their pet’s mouth, issues related to their pet’s specific oral issues and what needs to happen with a dental procedure to improve the animal’s health. Education of the client prior to the procedure will diminish post procedure misunderstandings that hurt the veterinary/client relationship. Although this course focuses on canine patients, it is just as necessary for feline patients. It also outlines different aspects to key in on and present several examples via case studies.

At the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • outline the important points to discuss with clients in the exam room
  • compare and contrast the educational points to discuss based on degree of dental disease and recommended treatment
  • explain the importance of full client education prior to any dental procedure to help ensure success and a positive client/practice relationship
