Course Overview

This free course provides an introduction to the concept of an Osteoarthritis Case Manager. Utilizing video presentations, participants will be introduced to the benefits an OA case manager brings to the health and well-being of patients as well as to the practice team. It outlines the role of the veterinary technician in providing excellent OA services. This course will help the practice team compare their current OA treatment protocols with the benefits of developing a more proactive and in-depth approach to OA.

Continuing Education Credits

Course meets the requirements for 1 RACE hours of continuing education credit for veterinary technicians and veterinarians in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB's RACE approval. However, participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery.

This is an non-interactive online course that meets RACE requirements; program number 57-10620.


Participation Access Parameters

This course is "on-demand." Participants may enroll at any time. Upon submission of the enrollment the participant is immediately added to the course. The course welcome email provides login and other important information.

Participants do not need to complete the course in one sitting. However, participants who do not access the course for 30 consecutive days will be processed as incomplete. Any activity within the course will reset to the full 30 days time allotment.

Participants who are unable to complete the course may re-enroll at their convenience.


Course Content

This free introductory course presents the concept of the Osteoarthritis Case Manager, the economics of osteoarthritis, and describes the 7 course modules that comprise the full Canine Osteoarthritis Case Manager Certificate Program.


Course Focus and Learning Objectives

This course is appropriate for veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians interested in providing canine rehabilitative services to patients and clients.

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe how an osteoarthritis case manager can help both patients and the practice
  • Identify the roles of the treatment team
  • Identify the role of the veterinary technician in managing osteoarthritis
  • Describe the economics benefits of managing arthritis
  • List strategies for working with reluctant owners
  • List and summarize the 7 modules of the Canine OA Case Manager Certificate Program


Course Completion Requirements

  • Examination: Students must pass the examination with a score of 80% or better

  • Course Survey: Students must submit the course survey

Upon submission of the final completion requirement, the participant will be automatically marked as completed and the course completion email will be sent out. The participant will have immediate access to the certificate.
