| I need to take an assistant program so that I can qualify to take the AVA examination. Do the courses on VetMedTeam qualify? |
|
Yes, both of the VetMedTeam programs, the full 8 month version and the fast-track experiental learner option, have been approved by NAVTA. In addition, both versions articulate for college credit at some of the AVMA accredited technology programs. To learn more please visit either the Full Version or the Experiential Learner Option. Current employment as a veterinary assistant for a minimum of 20 hours per week is mandatory.
VetMedTeam members who have already completed either the VetMedTeam Veterinary Assistant Program or the VetMedTeam Veterinary Assistant Experiential Learner Option are eligible to sit the final AVA examination, if desired. Please contact us at CE@VetMedTeam.com to obtain the code needed for the shopping cart. |

| I would like to sit for the Approved Veterinary Assistant designation. I have 5 years (or more) of experience working as an assistant. What are my options? |
|
Until December 31, 2013, NAVTA is allowing experienced assistants to qualify to sit the exam without taking an approved assistant program. However, the candidate must enroll and complete the Experienced Assistant Qualifying Option - to learn more click on the link. Those who opt to take this option will be required to complete a series of examinations in various areas. The questions cover the duties and responsibilites of the veterinary assistant and general practice information.. If you decide you qualify and choose to enroll, please download this pdf document prior to accessing the qualifying option. The information it contains is the basis for one of the exams. The Veterinary Healthcare Team. This special qualifying option is available only on VetMedTeam. Please note it does not articulate for college credit.
If you plan to enroll in a veterinary technology program in the foreseeable future, you may find the VetMedTeam Experiencial Learner Option will provide the more beneficial option. |

| Ok - I have completed an approved program (or the special qualifying option). What happens now? |
|
Successful completers will be provided a code. Please do not contact NAVTA for the code - it will be provided through whichever program you attended. The code must be used in the shopping cart to place an order for the AVA examination. Once used, a code cannot be used by another person. Those who have completed either of the 2 VetMedTeam programs or the limited-time NAVTA qualifying option will be provided the code directly from VetMedTeam.
Examination mentor: Candidates sitting the exam are required to take the examination while in the same room with a practice examination mentor - either a veterinarian or a credentialed veterinary technician. Candidates will be asked to provide the name and credentialing of the mentor. |
