Program Content Overview
There are 13 online content courses covering the areas of standard veterinary practice, as listed below:
- Overview of the Veterinary Profession
- Office Procedures and Client Relations
- Medical Terminology
- Animal Behavior and Restraint
- Animal Husbandry
- Animal Care and Nursing
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Pharmacology
- Anesthesia and Surgical Assisting
- Laboratory Procedures
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Avian and Exotic Animal Care and Nursing
- Hospice, Grief and Pet Loss
In addition, students will complete the hands-on portion of the program at a local practice, guided by the clinicial mentor. The mentor is either a credentialed veterinary technician (LVT, CVT, RVT) or a licensed veterinarian.
Examples of tasks on skill checklist:
- demonstrates the ability to perform the two-person lift for large animals
- correctly identifies anatomical directions
- can assist in procedures requiring restraint
- cleans surgical instruments properly in preparation for being placed into a surgical pack for sterilization
- competent to assist in positioning patients for radiographs in a dog or cat
