Course Overview

Nala is taking medication prescribed a week ago. Nala has a sudden onset of inappetence and lethargy and the owners rush her back to the hospital. As the history and medical clues unfold, the author discusses a diagnosis and medical treatment that can be applied in any veterinary practice. As the student progresses through the course, examination critical thinking questions will be asked. An explanation of the correct or incorrect answer choice is presented to lead the participant into a deeper understanding of Nala's condition and treatment.

CSI: Nala the Icteric Cocker Spaniel is a Case Study Investigation that leads the participant from Nala's hospital admission to treatment, discharge and follow-up. Participant Feedback

... It did a good job of presenting what a typical case would look like and the different treatment options and diagnostics to run.

...The course material was very informative and was a good refresher of IMHA.

...I liked the explanation of why different drugs might be chosen, why certain tests at certain intervals and what the results indicate.

...Comprehensive lab testing discussion...

...Steroid tapering suggestions...Monitoring tips...

...The flow was superb. Really gets you to think about the next logical step and the questions were easy to understand and relate the info to.

...The diagnostic aspect of this course is the most beneficial to me. I am an ER LVT and the diagnostics listed are what we heavily rely on. We also see IHMA (chronic and acute) on emergency shifts, so this course bolstered my knowledge in a diagnostic point of view.

...Algorithm for pre hepatic, hepatic, and post hepatic icterus.

...Working in an emergency hospital that has an internal medicine practitioner on staff, I felt that it was beneficial to speak about ways to treat a difficult case such as IMHA when there is financial concerns with the client.

...It explained how to do the SAT testing step by step and about the negative blood types.

...The course was informational as well as interesting being a Case study. It doesn't just give a bland textbook explanation of IMHA, but involves the reader/learner into the information, like a "mystery" short story and a realistic scenario. Almost like its one of your own patients.

...All relivant information, very helpful to a 3rd year vet student learning the basics on this disease.

...The logical progression of the case and the reasons behind the diagnostic tests.

...very relevant emergency case in normal vet practice.

...I really liked the use of a real case in order to apply my knowledge of diagnostics as well as the disease itself. I enjoyed going step by step through the process of isolating the problems and following up with diagnostics to rule out certain diseases as well as making the final diagnosis and treatment plan in the end.

...The diagnostic aspect of this course is the most beneficial to me. I am an ER LVT and the diagnostics listed are what we heavily rely on. We also see IHMA (chronic and acute) on emergency shifts, so this course bolstered my knowledge in a diagnostic point of view.
