EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE REVIEWS AND DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

Course Description

As an employee, the words “performance review” may stimulate a flashback to grade school when getting back a test or a report card. The feeling is not a pleasant one. As an employer, the same words may bring about a feeling of "uugghh, it’s so much work." It is for these reasons; many veterinary hospitals do not conduct employee performance reviews. However, successful businesses do the reviews and do them well. As with anything, in order for it to be a positive, productive experience, time and effort has to be put into the process ahead of time.

Employee Performance Reviews and Disciplinary Actions, a 2-week course, contains information essential for every manager and owner. The first course module describes why performance reviews must be completed and, more importantly, illustrates the components and steps to performing this task effectively. Module Two is designed to keep businesses out of trouble. Every business will have to discipline an employee that is off track at some point. Handling problems sooner rather than later will help to minimize a bad situation. However, even with best efforts, disciplinary actions up to and including termination may be necessary. This section illustrates the many labor laws that are in effect and what to do and not do when hiring and firing an employee to avoid legal pitfalls.

In addition to in depth information, there are numerous links to web resources and articles to download that explore certain topics further. Regardless if you are new to management or are experienced, this course will provide you with invaluable information that you will need in your career.

Testimonials

...The sample "employee performance review" and the "employment ending checklist" were fantastic!

...The entire course was helpful. I liked the assignments for the performance review section. They really made me take a look at what we've done in the past vs. what we could/should be doing. The disciplinary section was very informative and gave many needed references.

...I found the entire course helpful. I have recently returned to my hospital after a leave and find myself rebuilding many policies, procedure and really, just some bad habits that formed in my absence. Very helpful and applicable to my current situation.

...Being a Hospital Manager I've learned how and what to add to our practice for legal reasons when it comes to hiring and firing. I will be adding a termination letter and exit checklist when it comes to an employee termination or employee leaving the hospital. I now have numerous articles to help me in addition to this course.

... Message board assignments were excellent. Instructor response to those assignments were very timely and constructive.

... I am a practice owner and supervisor. This course has given more confidence to do employee performance evaluations and to think about unacceptable behaviours that will go into the disciplinary section of the practice handbook. Thanks for an excellent course.
